Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended higher as a weaker-than-expected labor-market report eased expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike in October, pulling Treasury yields lower initially and supporting risk appetite. Nonfarm payrolls increased by just 29,000, well below expectations, while revisions to previous months also pointed to softer employment conditions, strengthening the case for a pause in monetary tightening. Technology and consumer discretionary shares led gains, with Nvidia and Tesla among notable contributors, although yields later recovered part of their decline as oil prices remained elevated. The S&P 500 gained 0.7%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5%, and the NASDAQ ad

vanced 1.2%.

European equities ended higher as softer U.S. employment data reduced near-term rate-hike concerns and helped ease pressure from the recent bond-market selloff, with technology and cyclical shares benefiting from the improved risk tone. The rebound came despite euro-area inflation accelerating to 3.8%, which kept expectations for European monetary policy relatively cautious, while lower government bond yields provided support across major markets. The FTSE 100 gained 0.3%, the DAX advanced 1.2%, the CAC 40 rose 0.8%, and the EURO STOXX 600 increased 0.8%.

Asian markets are trading mixed as investors weigh the softer U.S. labor data against elevated global borrowing costs, currency volatility and ongoing inflation concerns. Japanese shares remained under pressure from the stronger yen and sensitivity to higher energy costs, while South Korean equities found support from semiconductor stocks and improved global technology sentiment; Hong Kong stocks, meanwhile, faced broader selling pressure. The Nikkei 225 declined -0.9%, the KOSPI gained 0.5%, and the Hang Seng fell -2.6%, while mainland Chinese markets were closed.
